"Important News about Vitamin D and Your Health"
Recent studies have shown that Vitamin D fights Cancer, Depression, Neurological Diseases (like Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis), Psoriasis, Osteoporosis (by assisting in bone calcium absorption), Diabetes, and Seasonal Affective Disorder. It also helps provide Pain Relief, and may even prevent Influenza! Vitamin D, a fat-soluble vitamin, works like a very powerful hormone in your body, and is active in quantities as small as 1/1,000,000,000,000 of a gram (that’s one trillionth). Our primary Vitamin D source is the Sun. You don’t need direct sunlight; filtered through clouds is fine. (Caution: getting a sunburn puts you at risk for skin cancer!). You can also get Vitamin D naturally in cold-processed fish oil like Cod Liver Oil. A recommended dosage would be 1 teaspoon per 50 pounds of body weight, not to exceed 1 Tablespoon per day. Note: Always keep your oils refrigerated. Find Natural Vitamin D Supplements in our online dispensary Since
I started testing my patients, I’ve found that 95% of them have been not just low,
but dangerously low in Vitamin D.
Want to find out your own Vitamin D levels? A simple blood test is all it takes. There are two tests for Vitamin D. The one to ask for is "25 hydroxy Vitamin D". Before taking high levels of Vitamin D supplementation, you should have your health care professional check your blood levels, and continue to monitor them during supplementation. Natural versus Synthetic: Please don’t be fooled by cheaper, less effective, synthetic Vitamins. D3 is the natural form. Vitamin D2 is synthetic. Suggested Dosage of Vitamin D in our Northern Climate is 2,000mg per day in healthy individuals (from October through April). If you take Vitamin D, you should also take a Calcium/Magnesium supplement daily. Vitamin D toxicity is rare, and has mainly occurred when using synthetic D2 in high doses. Contra-indications: You should consult a physician before use if you have kidney disease, high blood calcium levels, or if you take Digoxin or other Cardiac Glycoside drugs.
